Insufficient lubrication of track pins or improper tensioning of track shoes and pads can often lead to running noise and premature wear. Track contamination can also contribute to these problems. Therefore, the following should be checked regularly, at least monthly, before each operation, or after the crane has traveled a significant distance:
① Crawler track mechanism (wear, track pin lubrication, and track shoe and pad tension);
② Track rollers or carrier sprockets (wear, roller lubrication, and function);
③ Crawler track drive mechanism (wear, reducer lubrication);
④ Track contamination.
Dirty tracks require more energy to move the crane. Consequently, wear on the moving parts of the tracks is particularly severe.
Note:
① Before each lifting and traveling operation, all connecting pins must be thoroughly lubricated. Bolts that prevent track pin movement must be replaced or retightened if they are loose or missing. ② Lubricate the track pins in the track assembly and check the track tension if any running noise is present.
③ Lubricate the track pins after cleaning the track and before tensioning the track assembly.
Warning:
① Cleaning the track is absolutely crucial when it is dirty. The bolts that prevent the track pins from moving must not fall out, causing the track pins to protrude from the track shoe and pad pin holes. This can easily damage the track pins or the track shoe and pad pin holes due to uneven force.
② If uneven wear is observed on the inside and outside of the track shoe and pad, swap the working surfaces (this can be done by replacing the left and right track assemblies). This will effectively extend the service life of the track shoe and pads.
